The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation -George Washington
NFVR offers a solution to veteran unemployment. Our goal is not to simply put veterans back to work. We want to procure careers they can be proud of for a lifetime.
When you pitch it like a charity, it gets treated like a charity. We pitch it as it is, an investment—or re-investment—in America's future. NFVR initiates action to battle veteran unemployment by changing the tone of the dialogue from charitable, to utilitarian.
This isn't just theory. There is no image more powerful than a student's decision to enlist in the forces. Yet when we travel the country and talk to our veterans about their experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan, staggering numbers are waiting on line at homeless shelters or lingering in the unemployment office. We see an incomplete image of the national hero. Veteran unemployment is a force divider, and single-handedly deters our brightest and toughest youth from military service.
NFVR is more than about honoring veterans or thanking them for their service. It is an effort to optimize productivity, honoring an already-made investment in our nation's defense, and providing transition strategies for our servicemen and their successors.
Our first concern is, where are our veterans going to find jobs? With the help of our parters in the oil and gas industry, NFVR is building the infrastructure to reduce veteran unemployment. We want to see a sustainable model of transition to employment for our servicemen coming home to an America that is inspired, and recognizes the value of their service.
